MATHELITICS COMPETITION FOR GRADE 6-11 STUDENTS IN PEEL, YORK REGIONS

Dear Parents and Participants,

Tutor on Wheels Educational Foundation is pleased to announce the launching of Mathelitics competition for Gr6 -11 children in Peel and York regions.

The MATH-E-LITICS competition will be offered in three categories. Sub junior, Junior and Senior.

Sub Junior category is  for those in grades 6 and 7,

Junior category for those in grades 8 and 9
Senior category for those in grades 10 and 11.

The competition will provide an opportunity for students in 6-11 grades to revisit their knowledge in mathematics and what they studied in preceding
grades. Those in Gr 11 will answer the questions based on  grade 9,10 curriculum. Similarly those in Gr 8,9 will be tested for their Mathematics knowledge

pertaining to grade 7 and 8. Those in grades 6,7 will be tested for their knowledge as per Gr 5.6 curriculum.  The competition provides a great platform and opportunity for children to revisit and enhance their knowledge in mathematics, which otherwise would not be possible in academic settings. The contestants will have opportunity to win prizes for each category individually for each region, besides chance for winning complimentary prizes. All the participants will be entitled to receive certificates of participation.

The entire competition will be organized on the same date with 70 questions to be answered in 90 minutes. Prizes and certificates will be awarded the same day.

Sub Junior & Junior Categories : First prize $200 and trophy, Second prize $100 and plaque , Third prize $50 & medal  for each region

Senior Category : First prize $300 and trophy, Second prize $200 & plaque , Third prize $100    for each region

The organizers are  urging the parents to encourage their children to participation in the competition and support the mandate for extracurricular literacy among children and youth.

TOWEF mathelitics organizing committee congratulates the winners of peel region competition held on  Sat,Nov 17th, at Greenbriar Recreation Centre. Brampton. We urge the winners to keep their spirits and continue to excel in mathematics towards brighter future.

WE HAVE FINISHED THE ORIENTATION DATES, NOW ACCEPTING ONLINE REGISTRATIONS ONLY

REGISTRATION CUT OFF DATE : NOV 10TH FOR PEEL REGION 

                                                                    NOV 18TH FOR YORK REGION 

 

 

Please ensure you attend any of these orientation to get familiarize with the rules, methodology and chapters covered for the competition
for each category. Also please bring few more contestants along with you to enroll. The competition questions will be based on the Ontario curriculum

Participants and parents can attend any of the orientation session irrespective of the region they belong.

Ensure you bring registration fee $25 on that date with school id of the contestant.

                  ELIGIBILITY, METHODOLOGY  & RULES

  • Only  those children in grades 6-11 are eligible to participate in competition
  • The participants should be residents of either YORK or  PEEL regions
  • No participant is allowed to represent two regions
  • Contestants under sub junior category will be tested  for their knowledge in grades  5& 6  mathematics as per Ontario curriculum and be currently enrolled in Gr 6 or 7
  • Contestants under Junior category will be tested for their knowledge in grades 7 &8 mathematics as per Ontario curriculum and should currently be enrolled in Gr  8 or 9 Contestants under Senior category will be tested for their knowledge in grades 9 &10  mathematics as per Ontario curriculum  and be enrolled in grade  10 or 11
  • All contestants should bring their own calculators for the competition
  • However, Sub junior and Junior categories are not allowed calculator and will be permitted to use as and when the question demand the usage at the discretion of the organizing committee. 
  • The organizers are not responsible for any lost items during the competition and it is the responsibility of parents and contestants to take care of their belongings
  • In case of tie between the contestants, they will be provided with extra 10 questions to answer as tie breaker round  to declare the winner.
  • In case of dispute or controversy, the decision of the Director will be final.
  • Parents are not allowed to stay with their children at the time of competition
  • Parents will be allowed later to participate in refreshments and prize ceremony                                                    

NOTE : The organizing committee has the right to cancel any one or more of the categories in the competition if  there is not enough enrollment under that category for that region. The contestants will be informed ahead and registration fee will be refunded back.

                                                                                                                                     METHODOLOGY

The competition will be held on separate dates for each of the region and winners declared for each region.  Contestants representing all the three categories  will have the competition on the same date simultaneously. They will be asked and guided to sit as per of their competition ID tags  for each of the category. The test papers will be provided for each category of contestants.

Each test paper will have 70 questions to be answered in 90 minutes. No extra time will be provided. The test papers will be marked and scored on the same day by evaluators . The top three scorers from each category will be adjudged  and announced as winners. Winners of all categories will be awarded with prizes and certificates on the same day. There will be three winners for each region for each category. Non winning  contestants will also be eligible to enter lucky draw for complimentary prizes.
